RISE (Rewriting Inner Scripts)
The RISE program is designed to help young MSM of color to explore their
experiences with regard to homophobia, and discrimination and overcome
the effects of such experiences as it impacts their utilization of health care
resources.
Participants explore, through interactive exercises, journaling, and discussions the challenges of being Latino same-gender loving men. The program specifically deals with the challenges of being Latino while dealing with the challenges of being MSM. Small groups promote sharing and encourage identification and understanding of how shame can lead to silence, denial, isolation, and HIV risk behaviors.
The program then turns its focus to the patterns in their lives and how to alter those patterns to incorporate messages of self-acceptance and worthiness which will lead to making safer choices. Participants will learn to identify this pattern in order to make alternative, safer decisions.

TSISTA (Transgender Sisters Informing Sisters About Topics on AIDS)
TSISTA is a skills training group for Latina transgender women based on gender- and culturally- relevant discussions aimed at reducing HIV sexual risk behavior and increasing condom use. Sessions focus on ethnic and gender pride, HIV knowledge, and skills training around sexual risk reduction behaviors and decision-making.
Sessions include behavioral skills practice, group discussions, lectures, and role-playing. Topics that generate these discussions and activities include ethnic/gender pride; HIV/AIDS education; self-assertiveness skills training; and behavioral skills management.
NovaSalud’s TSISTA program gives participants the opportunity to explore ethnic and gender pride and sexual risk reduction behaviors through relevant vocational skills introduction and training. This is based on the knowledge that vocation and skills provide the participant with the self- confidence and empowerment necessary to focus on self-advocacy and assertiveness which will lead to safer decision-making.
